“The Icon” is a full CGI project undertaken as an opportunity to develop skills in texturing, look development, and lighting. The focus was on creating highly detailed and visually compelling still renders that showcase the beauty and design of the Porsche 911 (964 Series) reimagined by Singer.
The car was partly textured in Substance Painter, whilst the rest of it was lookdev’d within Maya’s Hypershade. The environment was put together using heavily modified textures and assets from various sources (linked below). Scattering was done using Bifrost. The scene is held together through the use of a large amount of Arnold Stand-ins and as per usual, the colour space of choice was ACES. Naturally, 32-bit openEXR file formats were used for maximum leverage in compositing. Rendered using NVIDIA RTX 3080.
A project like this would not be complete without mentioning the two legends in the CG automotive field — Ash Thorp and Colorsponge. Once again, they have been incredibly influential and inspiring through everything they’ve produced at Make Haste Corp.
A big thank you goes out to Remi for his invaluable feedback throughout the entirety of this project. The result would not have been the same without his help.
