A dive into modular design & sci-fi environments.
The Lab is nothing more than a construct of various modular pieces that were modelled, textured, and lit from scratch. These modules can be fully customised in terms of position, rotation and angle. This allows for more creativity and less limitation on behalf of the artist, as it can be used to create a variety of corridors, alleys, larger rooms, etc.
This was a mix of traditional subdivision hard surface modelling and non-subdivision surface modelling. Texturing was done almost entirely in Substance Painter. Sergey Tyapkin was a major inspiration for me as I regard him as a legend when it comes to modular sci-fi environments, and I’ve learned a great deal watching his videos.
